How Do You Learn Best

Aural/Audio Learners

Aural (or auditory) learners learn best by hearing information. They tend to get a great deal out of lectures and are good at remembering things they are told. This perceptual mode describes a preference for information that is spoken or heard. Learners with this modality report that they learn best from discussion, oral feedback, asking questions, email, mobile chat, texting, discussion boards, oral presentations, classes, tutorials, and talking with others.

Auditory learners learn through listening. As such, attending lectures, tutorials, and group discussions are absolutely essential for these learners (it’s also essential for the rest of us, being a read/write learner is no reason to skip lecture!).

Auditory learners yourself focus on textbook readings by reading them out loud, so you can hear how the words sound. They also prefer to engage in group discussions about course concepts and topics and participate weekly study groups to talk about the things being discussed in lectures. When taking notes research suggests that learners when taking notes in lectures, leave extra room on pages for supplemental or metadata recordings.
