How Do You Learn Best

Multimodal Learners

People who are multimodal are different combinations of the four single learning styles preferences or modalities (V, A, R and K) previously covered. Their learning style is  a combination of two, three or four learning modality preferences.

Those with a multimodal preference are the largest group in the VARK learning category. They make up some

two-thirds of any general group. Their VARK survey scores also show little difference between two, three or

four preferred modalities. They do not have a single preference, but some mix of the four preferences V, A, R and K; . these learners may be bimodal, trimodal, or favor all four (VARK) styles.

As a group there is diversity among them because they include these eleven VARK profiles. Those with two preferences ( bimodal), can identify quite closely with learners who have a single preference, but they have “two of them”. For example, a learner whose VARK scores are 6, 6, 2 and 2 is similar to a learner with a single Visual preference and another learner who has a single Aural preference (Fleming & Baume, 2006). The multimodal  learning style is considered the most common amongst all of the VARK modality preferences.
